Innovation Express magazine

Innovation Express magazine is a quarterly round-up of what's new in science and innovation from across Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

As a key player in Canada's agri-food R&D arena, we owe it to Canadians to keep our research visible and accessible. By doing so we also hope to enhance our dialogue with the sector and present opportunities for collaborative research.

Our vision is to create a better future and improve economic prosperity for the agriculture and agri-food sector in Canada through agricultural research and innovation. We provide the agri-food sector with information, research and technology that generates wealth for producers and the country, and help achieve security of the food system, health of the environment, and innovation for growth. And, as a federal department, our work supports the overarching science and innovation directions of the Government of Canada.

We conduct research at 19 centres across Canada, where over 600 researchers among a staff of some 2300 employees take part in world-class science and innovation programs. This newsletter shows just a sample of what we do for Canada.

2013: Volume 4, Issue 1 - New Science and Technology Branch
This issue illustrates some long-standing collaborative projects between what used to be known as Research Branch, Agri-Environmental Services Branch and the Pest Management Centre – now all parts of the new Science and Technology Branch.

2011: Volume 3, Issue 2 - 125 years of Agricultural Research: Rooted in Science - Innovating for the Future
This anniversary is an excellent opportunity to recognize the contributions of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's (AAFC) dedicated staff and partners, past and present, who have guided federal science to ensure that our research reflect the needs of the industry we serve and helped make today's industry modern and innovative.

2011: Volume 3, Issue 1 - Technology Goes into Action
This issue of Innovation Express provides examples of several technologies and intellectual properties developed, evaluated or supported by AAFC scientists.

2010: Volume 2, Issue 2 - Biodiversity
Researchers across the globe are working together to understand biodiversity, and the implications human activities have on its future.

2010: Volume 2, Issue 1 - Joining Forces through Collaboration a Boon to the Sector
Today strong collaborative relationships with other federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments, industry and academia are being strengthened, renewed, and expanded to include new partners. Several new programs are helping us achieve this.

2009: Volume 1, Issue 2 - Food For Health
The association between food and health has been observed long before it could be quantified. And now, thanks to science, rapid progress on this front has been exponentially expanding our knowledge of the relationship between food components and health benefits.

2009: Volume 1, Issue 1
