Provincial Programs

Agriculture Innovation Program

The objective of the Agriculture Innovation Program is to enhance the competitiveness, profitability and innovative capacity of the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture and agri-foods industry and to ensure the development of under-utilized agricultural resources. Investments will be made in innovation diversification and secondary processing.

Agriculture Land Development Program

The objective of the Agriculture Land Development Program is to maximize the productivity and availability of agricultural land in the province and to ensure the development of under-utilized land resources. Investments will be made in the following priority areas including land development on mineral soils, peatland development and maintenance, sub-surface drainage, on-farm access roads, organic land development and agricultural land development equipment.

Agriculture Opportunities Program

The objectives of the Agriculture Opportunities Program are to enable the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture and agri-foods industry to capture business and marketing opportunities and to enhance human resource develop0ment opportunities within the industry. Investments will be made in business, human resource development and market development.

Agriculture Sustainability Program

The objectives of the Agriculture Sustainability Program are to enhance food safety and environmental stewardship within the agriculture and agri-foods industry. Investments will be made in the environment, food safety and environmental beneficial management practices.

Environmental Assessment

Projects approved for assistance under this program must be environmentally sound. If it is determined that the project could have significant environmental impact, an environmental assessment may be required prior to project approval.

Mitigating Agriculture Risks Program

The objective of the Mitigating Agricultural risks Program is to enable the agriculture and agri-foods industry to mitigate risks, develop innovative technologies and enhance the sector's capacity to self-mage risks pertaining to the environment, food safety, wildlife, plant and animal health, and biosecurity threats.

New Farm Investment Program

The objectives of the New Farm Investment Program are to address the unique challenges faced by new entrants in the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture industry, to help ensure the development of under-utilized agricultural resources, encourage the establishment of new farm businesses, and to enhance the competitiveness of the sector.

Northern Agriculture Development

The Northern Agriculture Development program is designed to allocate funding to promote and encourage northern agriculture development. Governments recognize the challenges faced by the agriculture and agri-foods industry in Labrador and will allocate annual funding over the life of Growing Forward to support agriculture land development, innovation, food safety, human resources development and environmental stewardship.
