Areas of Expertise:
- Molecular plant pathology and plant molecular biology; the application of modern methods of molecular genetic analysis to discover associations between genes and traits; the construction and sampling of cDNA libraries for expressed sequence tags; transcript profiling using microarrays; identification of genes by map-based approaches; biochemical characterization of protein toxins and elicitors; genomics.
- Disease Resistance - Root rot caused by Phytophthora sojae is a serious and ongoing disease problem for Canadian soybean growers. Research efforts concentrate on identifying pathogen factors that determine host range and virulence
- Soybean Seed Quality - Seed quality characteristics affect the value and utilization of the crop and are important to importers, crushers, processors, seed dealers, and consumers of soy-based products. Our research focuses specifically on quality traits that are determined by the seed coat and pericarp tissues
Current Projects:
- Plant Pathogenic Phytophthora: Molecular Determinants of Virulence and Pathogenicity
- Soybean Seed Coat Proteins: Molecular Determinants of Quality and Allergenicity
Affiliations:
- Adjunct Professor, University of Western Ontario
