Areas of Expertise:

  • development of potato cultivars with improved quality and disease and pest resistance
  • development of enhanced germplasm with multiple disease and pest resistances
  • improve and identify potato selections with elevated levels of antioxidants and pigments with potential for niche markets

Current Projects:

  • Development and release to industry of new potato selections for processing and fresh markets, with improved resistances to diseases and pests, and adapted to rain-fed production systems.
  • Development of potato germplasm with improved nutritional, processing and fresh market quality and longer storability.
  • Development of potato germplasm with improved resistances to diseases and pests (incl. late blight, verticillium wilt, common scab, Colorado potato beetle, PVY, PLRV) and the incorporation of multiple resistances into new breeding parents.
