Current Projects:

  • Coordinate the testing of lines for agronomic, disease resistance and quality merit in registration trials
  • Develop and evaluate high yield spring wheat with quality for use in diverse end-use markets
  • Development of enhanced spring wheat germplasm for value-added markets
  • Enhance resistance to Fusarium head blight in major wheat quality classes to improve food safety through reduced mycotoxin content
  • High-yield wheat for feed and/or ethanol production
  • Improve/maintain resistance to leaf and stem rust, leaf spot diseases, common bunt, leaf spot diseases, root/crown rot, kernel discoloration, loose smut, powdery mildew, viruses and Pythium
  • Produce and deliver to industry breeder seed of high genetic purity and good physical condition
  • Developing high quality, disease resistant raspberry and strawberry cultivars for Canada
  • Developing high quality, adaptable, disease resistant tree fruit varieties for Canada
  • Breeding winter hardy, disease resistant early ripening strawberry season cultivars with long shelf life
  • Evaluation of hardy disease resistant of advanced and semi advanced apple and rootstock selections
