    International Scientific Cooperation

    Ensuring AAFC's International Role in Science and Innovation

    The International Scientific Cooperation Bureau (ISCB) of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) was created in April 2004 to promote the scientific activities with other countries and intergovernmental organizations (IGO).

    The ISCB has developed an international science strategy which extends AAFC science linkages internationally and is based on:

    Knowledge capacity

    Scientific cooperation with countries and organizations having an important or unique science capacity for Canada.

    Trade capacity

    Cooperation in science-based trade with countries and organizations of interest to AAFC.

    Development capacity

    Cooperation with developing countries which are within AAFC's priorities.

    Leadership capacity

    Cooperation with IGO of interest to AAFC.

    The ISCB aims to enhance international cooperation in science and innovation and to foster science excellence and productivity by:

    • Assessing greatest sources of new ideas and emerging technologies;
    • Enhancing Canadian science and technology capacity through partnership with organizations in other countries;
    • Providing science advice and expertise in support of trade and international development; and
    • Supporting AAFC and the Government of Canada international commitments.
