Agri-Environment
For more than a century, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) scientists, technicians and staff have been working to create better opportunities for farmers and all Canadians through agricultural research and innovation. From developing hardy new crop varieties that can flourish in Canadian climate to being shoulder to shoulder with the farmers in the field – helping to battle the dust bowl conditions in the 1930s, we have always helped Canadian agriculture and the Canadian economy overcome challenges and seize new opportunities.
Today, the challenges facing the agriculture sector – invasive species, environmental sustainability, a competitive international marketplace, growing consumer demand for healthy food choices – are no less daunting and make us even more determined to continue working with our industry and public sector partners on finding best possible solutions through science, innovation and technology.
AAFC is aligning its research, development and technology transfer to better serve Canadians, producers and industry by approaching all the challenges and opportunities - agronomic, economic and environmental – in an integrated way.
Sustainable agricultural systems can only result from sound management of natural, economic and human resources.
Implementation of beneficial management practices for the preservation of soil, land and water resources and development of effective policy for promoting these practices contribute to the goal of an environmentally responsible and competitive agricultural sector in Canada.
